Medical Update: Casualties of the Russian Missile Attack in Kyiv
As of the morning of May 25, 21 victims of Russia’s missile attack—launched during the night of May 23–24—are still receiving treatment in Kyiv hospitals. According to Mayor Vitali Klitschko, the total number of injured stands at 86, while the State Emergency Service (SES) reports 87 individuals who sought medical help or sustained injuries.
Tragically, two women lost their lives in the attack. Their bodies were recovered from the rubble of a five-story building’s entrance in the Shevchenkivskyi district.
Local Response and International Reactions
Among those hospitalized are two children. Damage to infrastructure has been recorded at 49 locations across the capital, including a residential building housing the Albanian ambassador to Ukraine.
Ukraine has urgently called for a meeting of the UN Security Council, as well as a joint session of the OSCE Forum for Security Cooperation and the OSCE Permanent Council.
The director of the security and defense department commented on the situation, emphasizing the need for 'an adequate and decisive response to the aggressor, who is trying to compensate for a lack of military progress on the battlefield by terrorizing civilians.'
The situation in the capital remains tense, with local authorities continuing to coordinate efforts to ensure residents’ safety.
This attack once again highlights the escalating violence in Ukraine and its devastating impact on civilians. International calls for urgent action underscore the severity of the crisis. Given the extensive infrastructure damage and the high number of casualties, a swift and firm global response to the aggressor’s actions is critical.
The recent missile attack has raised significant concerns about the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, especially following a massive ballistic missile strike that occurred just hours prior. This escalation in violence not only exacerbates the humanitarian crisis but also highlights the urgent need for international intervention and support for affected civilians.
