In Lutsk, a mother sold her 6-year-old son for $25,000: how many years she faces

In Volyn, law enforcement detained a woman who attempted to sell her own six-year-old son for 25 thousand dollars. She was caught during the transfer of money in Lutsk, and the child was removed and handed over to specialists for guardianship. This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine.

Child sale in Lutsk: crime details

According to the investigation, a 39-year-old resident of Lutsk district had been looking for buyers for her son, hoping to improve her financial situation. She valued the child at 25 thousand dollars.

The woman was detained on April 17 in one of Lutsk's establishments while receiving the money. The operation was carried out by migration police officers together with detectives, supported by criminal analysis and under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor's office.

The boy was immediately taken to a children's center, where specialists are working with him.

Punishment for human trafficking: what the suspect faces

Investigators notified the woman of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 149 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — human trafficking.

Key facts of the case:

  • the woman is unemployed and lives in the Lutsk district;

  • she had previously been accused of theft, the case is in court;

  • the suspect is currently in custody.

For the crime she committed, she faces up to 15 years in prison. The investigation continues.
