Arrest Made in Lviv Region Fraud Case

A man has been arrested in the Lviv region for defrauding the family of a missing soldier out of more than 2.1 million hryvnias (approximately $52,000 USD). The suspect had promised to locate the missing servicemember. This arrest concludes a five-month investigation into the fraud, and authorities confirmed the man did not leave the Lviv region during this period.

The situation was compounded when the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War officially confirmed the missing soldier was not on any official lists. The Halytskyi District Prosecutor's Office in Lviv has notified the detainee of suspicion under Part 5 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which pertains to fraud on an especially large scale.

  • A 43-year-old resident of Dnipro, who misappropriated nearly 10,000 euros.
  • The servicemember successfully reclaimed these funds through the European Court of Human Rights.

The investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement continues to take measures to punish all individuals involved in the fraud.

This case underscores the need for caution among military families, who can be vulnerable to fraudsters during times of conflict and uncertainty.

Arresting fraudsters and investigating such crimes is critically important for protecting the rights and interests of families enduring loss and uncertainty. Law enforcement agencies remain active in identifying and punishing all parties involved in these crimes to prevent similar incidents in the future.
