On June 7, a rally in support of the LGBTQ+ community took place in the center of Lviv, during which organizers held a symbolic wedding ceremony for two women. Participants called on the government to regulate same-sex partnerships at the legislative level. At the same time, an event for supporters of traditional family values occurred nearby. This was reported by ZAXID.NET.

Rally Participants Called for Recognition of Same-Sex Partnerships

The event in front of the Lviv National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet was organized by civil organizations “Feminist Workshop” and “Insight” as part of Pride Month.

One of the main demands from participants was the reinstatement of provisions in the new draft of the Civil Code that would allow for the legal recognition of same-sex partnerships.

According to the organizers, about 150 people participated in the event. Participants held placards calling for equality and the protection of human rights.

Symbolic Marriage was the Main Event of the Rally

During the rally, a symbolic wedding ceremony took place for two women. Organizers emphasized that they wanted to draw attention to the lack of an official mechanism for recognizing same-sex couples in Ukraine.

Among the slogans from participants were “Love is not a crime”, “Free country - free love”, and “God is love”.

Law enforcement ensured order during the event, separating participants of different rallies and monitoring the situation in the square.

A Rally for Traditional Family Support was Also Held in Lviv

At the same time as the rally in support of LGBTQ+, a counter-demonstration took place nearby. Participants declared their support for the traditional model of family and Christian values.

They held placards calling for the preservation of the institution of family and emphasizing the current provisions of the Constitution of Ukraine, which defines marriage as a union between a woman and a man.

Thanks to the presence of police, both events proceeded without serious incidents.

It should be noted that the Minister of Health of Ukraine, Viktor Lyashko, visited the Lviv National Medical University named after Daniel of Galicia, where a pilot project on implementing modern approaches in medical education started at the end of 2024. As part of this project, the first multidisciplinary University Hospital in Ukraine was established at the university.
