In Lviv, the extension of the list of beneficiaries who will be able to use public transport for free has been approved. The decision concerns two more categories of pensioners and will come into effect from March 1, 2026. This is reported by the Lviv City Council.
Free travel in Lviv: who has been granted benefits
The relevant decision was supported by the deputies at the meeting of the finance and budget planning commission of the Lviv City Council. Free travel in public transport has been approved for the following categories of community residents:
- pensioners who receive a pension due to the loss of a breadwinner
- pensioners who receive a pension for length of service and have reached retirement age from among the officer corps, warrant officers, ensigns, soldiers of extended service and contract service
The right to free travel will be granted to pensioners aged 60 and over, who are registered in the Lviv City Community.

According to the head of the finance and budget planning commission, Natalia Shelestak, the project for the decision was refined taking into account the financial capabilities of the city. “We supported this project for the decision. It is refined. From March 1, 2026, benefits will be able to be received by pensioners of the specified category aged 60 and over who are residents of the Lviv community,” she noted.
According to preliminary calculations, the implementation of the decision will cost the Lviv budget about 25 million UAH per year.
It should be noted that in Lviv one of the routes has launched only modern low-floor buses.
