Expert Seminar Held in Madrid
The inaugural expert seminar, titled 'Latin America and Ukraine: Building Mutual Understanding,' was held in Madrid. This event was organized under a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Spain, with its core objective being to counter Russian disinformation. The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Barcelona Centre for International Affairs (CIDOB) served as the seminar's organizers.
Expert Participation and Key Discussions
More than 50 experts from Ukraine, Spain, Colombia, Brazil, and Mexico participated in the seminar. Discussions centered on the impact of Russian aggression on global dynamics and specifically on nations within the Latin American region. A primary focus was the critical importance of conveying the truth about events in Ukraine and actively combating disinformation. Participants also explored avenues for developing partnerships with countries in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) and within the Ibero-American framework of cooperation.
Consequently, the seminar represented a significant step in strengthening international ties and exchanging perspectives on the pressing challenges stemming from Russian aggression. It underscored the necessity for collaboration between Ukraine and Latin American nations. This event may lay the groundwork for advancing bilateral relations and could encourage Latin America to play a more active role in global discussions concerning international security and stability. This dialogue is particularly vital as disinformation campaigns seek to influence public opinion and diplomatic stances worldwide.
