Drone Neutralized in Mykolaiv

On May 13, 2026, explosives experts in Mykolaiv neutralized a Russian attack drone that local residents had spotted perched in the top of a tree. After noticing the dangerous object, citizens immediately called emergency services. Responding to the scene were bomb disposal specialists, patrol officers, and investigative teams from both the Mykolaiv district police department and the regional police headquarters. Since the drone's warhead had not detonated upon discovery, the explosives team decided to destroy it on site using a controlled detonation.

Investigators documented the aftermath and collected physical evidence. As a result, a pre-trial investigation has been launched under the article of the Criminal Code of Ukraine concerning violations of the laws and customs of war. That same day, Russia launched a massive combined strike against Ukraine, with cities coming under attack including:

  • Lutsk
  • Kovel
  • Kolomyia
  • Khmelnytskyi

According to a statement from the Main Intelligence Directorate, the aggressor is operating in multiple waves, deploying a large number of attack drones.

Debris from one of the drones fell on open ground in Kyiv's Obolon district. Commenting on the situation, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that

“it cannot be ruled out that the occupiers may launch missiles at Ukraine after all the waves of drones.”

Law enforcement officials stress the importance of caution when encountering debris from missiles, drones, or any suspicious objects. They advise people not to approach such items and to call the emergency hotline at 102.

This incident highlights the growing threat posed by drones in the context of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. The discovery of a dangerous drone in Mykolaiv, along with massive strikes on other cities, signals an escalation in military actions by the aggressor. The situation demands heightened vigilance from both law enforcement and the public, as hazardous objects can pose a serious risk to life and health.

The situation in Mykolaiv is part of a broader trend of escalating drone activity, as evidenced by a recent drone strike on a residential area in Ivano-Frankivsk. This incident underscores the urgent need for vigilance and preparedness among citizens as the conflict intensifies, with increased risks posed by aerial threats across various Ukrainian cities.
