Today, December 14, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Remembrance for the liquidators of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant disaster. This holiday is dedicated to the completion of the construction of the sarcophagus over the destroyed fourth power unit.
The leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs honored the memory of the liquidators by laying flowers and lighting candles at the Memorial. The event was attended by high-ranking officials, including the State Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Inna Yashchuk, Deputy Minister Leonid Tymchenko, and the head of the Council of the Association of Veterans of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Vasyl Durdyk.
“On this day, we remember the feat of the heroes who were the first to take part in the liquidation of the consequences of the disaster at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant - firefighters from specialized units. We sincerely thank them for their selflessness and courage,” emphasized Inna Yashchuk.
Today, Ukrainians along with law enforcement officers pay tribute to the memory of those who became the guardians against further disasters and risks.
