Due to the abnormal heat affecting European countries, the largest railway carrier in Germany, Deutsche Bahn, has introduced a temporary option for free ticket returns. The offer will apply to passengers who decide to cancel their trips during the highest temperature periods. This was reported by Deutsche Bahn.

Who can return Deutsche Bahn tickets for free

The special offer applies to passengers who purchased tickets until June 23, 2026, for trips scheduled from June 25 to June 30, 2026.

Deutsche Bahn explained that passengers can cancel their trip for free if they do not wish to travel due to the severe heat. To do this, they need to fill out a special online form on the carrier's website or contact the railway ticket office.

What measures has Deutsche Bahn implemented

In addition to ticket refunds, the company is enhancing its preparations to operate under high temperature conditions.

In particular, Deutsche Bahn announced:

  • additional supplies of drinking water at stations;

  • provision of water for passengers on trains;

  • increased control of rolling stock operations during heat.

These measures are intended to help minimize inconvenience for passengers during extreme temperatures.

Europe is hit by a wave of abnormal heat

This week, severe heat caused disruptions to railway services in several European countries. Some carriers were forced to temporarily halt certain routes, and passengers were advised to refrain from non-essential travel.

Deutsche Bahn noted that in recent years, extreme heat has increasingly affected transport infrastructure. This year, high temperatures hit Europe as early as late spring, and the heatwave continued into early summer.
