From June 2026, foreigners from countries outside the EU and EFTA need to meet several conditions to receive the 800 Plus assistance in Poland. In particular, one parent must reside in the country, work or run a business, and the child must attend a Polish educational institution. Who of the Ukrainians can receive 800 Plus in Poland
The new requirements apply to citizens of countries outside the EU and EFTA. They do not apply to citizens of Poland, EU countries, the European Free Trade Association, and the United Kingdom.
To receive assistance, the foreign applicant must reside in Poland with the child and work or run their own business. The child must attend a preparatory class, school, technical school, or high school in the country. Ukrainians also need to ensure that the data in the PESEL register is up to date.
All criteria must be met simultaneously, but it is sufficient for one parent to comply. ZUS may refuse payment if the family has left Poland, the applicant is not paying contributions, or the child is not attending an educational institution.
How ZUS checks eligibility for 800 Plus assistance
The Social Insurance Institution verifies applicants' data in several registers. Information about contributions is checked in the ZUS and KRUS systems, and the child's education is verified in the Educational Information System. They also use the PESEL register and data from the Border Guard. More about the rules for payments for Ukrainians we wrote earlier.
If there are discrepancies in the registers, for example, in the PESEL number, name, or date of birth, the payment may be suspended. The applicant will be notified that they need to provide explanations and supporting documents. They are given three days to respond from the date of receiving the request.
If the person confirms that they meet all the requirements, ZUS must restore the payment for the month in which it was suspended. To avoid delays, applicants should check the accuracy of their data and keep an eye on notifications from the institution. Separately, we discussed who needs to update their PESEL data.
