In the Polish city of Legnica, malefactors damaged the roof and cut down the cross from the main dome of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which is a shrine for the Ukrainian community. This was reported by the Ukrainian ambassador to Poland, Vasyl Bodnar, on social media Facebook.
«Today, on the eve of the great Christian holiday – the Elevation of the Holy Cross, we learned that unknown persons damaged the roof and cut down the cross from the main dome of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Legnica. The Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Poland has already urgently sent a note to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, and the General Consulate of Ukraine in Wrocław has appealed to local law enforcement agencies with a demand to take all necessary response measures and bring the criminals to justice», – wrote the ambassador.
The ambassador called on Polish law enforcement to thoroughly investigate this act of vandalism against the Ukrainian community and ensure legal punishment for the guilty. He also appealed to the public to react to anti-Ukrainian manifestations in society.
Increasing number of UOC MP parishes abroad
In 2024, the number of parishes of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate abroad has nearly reached 100. The rector of the Open Orthodox University, Georgiy Kovalenko, considers this a dangerous trend for the Ukrainian Orthodox community.
