Contaminated Polish Salami Found on Ukrainian Shelves

Salami products imported from Poland have been identified as potentially contaminated with dangerous bacteria and may be available for purchase in Ukraine. Bell Polska, a Polish manufacturer, is recalling three types of salami after detecting Listeria monocytogenes, a harmful bacterium that can cause listeriosis. Since these products could reach Ukrainian markets, consumers are urged to verify product labels before buying.

On October 19, 2026, Poland's Chief Sanitary Inspectorate (GIS) announced the discovery of Listeria monocytogenes in Bell Polska's salami batch number 11061. The recall affects the following three salami varieties, each weighing 250 grams:

  • Salami Musli, with a best-before date of January 3, 2027;
  • Salami with Pepper, expiring on January 1, 2027;
  • Mexican Salami, also with a best-before date of January 1, 2027.

Bell Polska has already initiated the withdrawal of these products from sale, and Polish authorities are closely overseeing the recall process.

Health Hazards Associated with Listeria

Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection particularly dangerous for pregnant women, elderly individuals, and those with weakened immune systems. The GIS strongly advises consumers to inspect the packaging carefully.

"If you have salami from the recalled batch at home, do not consume it," the Inspectorate warns.
They also emphasize:
"Anyone who experiences symptoms after eating the product should seek medical attention immediately."
Some supermarkets in Ukraine still stock Bell Polska products, making vigilance crucial when purchasing.

This situation highlights the critical need for stringent food safety controls. Given the widespread distribution of Polish food products in Ukraine, consumers must remain alert and thoroughly check labels to avoid health risks. It is equally important for Ukrainian health authorities to actively monitor imports to prevent contaminated goods from reaching store shelves.
