Claims are circulating in Polish social media that blue and yellow parking spaces were created specifically for Ukrainian citizens. In fact, these are Kiss & Ride zones for short drop-off and pick-up of passengers, and the driver's nationality does not matter. The same traffic rules apply to Ukrainians in Poland as to other drivers. This is reported by InPoland.
What Do Blue and Yellow Parking Spaces Mean in Poland
The wave of posts was prompted by a photo of a blue and yellow rectangle on the road in Raszyn near Warsaw. The image was notably published by the Warsaw branch of the “Confederation of the Polish Crown,” claiming that such places would become more common.
Alongside it, an AI-generated image of red and white road markings with a ban on parking for Ukrainians circulated. However, it has no relation to real parking regulations.
The blue and yellow marking indicates a Kiss & Ride zone, or K+R. The driver can briefly stop there to drop off or pick up a passenger, after which they must vacate the spot.
In Poland, the colors of such zones are not standardized by law. Warsaw, Gdynia, and Rzeszów, in particular, use blue and yellow designs that help drivers quickly notice the special area. Such zones have existed in Warsaw since 2016.
Different cities can implement their own solutions for organizing parking. For example, in Zakopane, special orange parking spaces intended for locals were previously introduced.
Where the Blue and Yellow Kiss & Ride Zone Was Photographed
The photo around which misinformation arose was taken near the Cyprian Godebski School on Unii Europejskiej Street in Raszyn.
The Raszyn Commune also published a photograph of this area. It clearly shows a road sign indicating the K+R zone.
This area was set up for parents who drop off and pick up their children from school. The purpose of this traffic organization is to avoid long-term parking near the educational institution and make dropping off and picking up children safer.
The zone operates Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM. The rules do not provide any advantages for cars with Ukrainian license plates or Ukrainian citizens.
Thus, the coincidence of the K+R colors with the Ukrainian flag became a basis for manipulation on social media. The blue and yellow markings in this case are not related to Ukraine.
