Mass Grave Uncovered in Gorzów Wielkopolski
On May 29, a mass grave from World War II was accidentally uncovered during quarry operations in Gorzów Wielkopolski, Poland. The discovery was made by Paweł Gontarczyk, an employee operating a wheel loader, who unearthed human bones and pieces of military footwear. Work was immediately halted, and law enforcement was called to the scene.
Following an order from the District Prosecutor's Office in Gorzów Wielkopolski, archaeological excavations and exhumations were launched. The dig revealed a shallow mass grave that had not been recorded in any known historical archives or military documents. Among the items found were military identification tags, as well as an object engraved with the German name 'Dehrist.'
