From December 29, 2025, in Poltava, the fare for travel in city route taxis operated by private carriers will change. The cost of one trip will rise to 15 hryvnias according to the decision of the executive committee of the Poltava City Council, made back in 2022. This was reported by Kolo.news.
At the same time, the fares for municipal transport remain unchanged. In city buses, the fare is 12 hryvnias, and in trolleybuses – 10 hryvnias. The city council explains that the increase only concerns private route taxis and is a forced measure.
Cost of travel in Poltava and current tariffs
Carriers appealed to the city authorities with a collective letter back in November 2025. They stated that it was no longer possible to operate at the tariff of 10 hryvnias due to rising costs. In particular, the following have become more expensive:

fuel and lubricants;

spare parts, tires, and batteries;

labor costs and insurance payments.
According to the carriers, the current price does not even cover basic expenses for maintaining transportation and poses a threat to the safety of transportation.
Travel in Poltava and reasons for tariff revision
The city council emphasizes that the tariff of 10 hryvnias has been in effect for over three years without changes, despite cumulative inflation from 2022 to 2025 being over 40%. In fact, it covers almost twice as few costs as at the time of implementation. Poltava also remained one of the few cities where the travel price was significantly lower than in most regions of Ukraine.
According to city data, passenger traffic is increasing: last year route taxis transported over 2.48 million passengers, and this year – already over 2.5 million. If the tariff adjustment is refused, some routes could become unprofitable, threatening to shorten services or close routes. The authorities note that the increase should be accompanied by stricter requirements for the quality of transportation and the technical condition of vehicles.
Let us remind you that in Cherkasy, from January 1, 2026, the cash fare in route taxis will be increased to 20 hryvnias, while payment via a validator will cost 16 hryvnias.
