The Parliament is preparing new sanctions for evaders

The Verkhovna Rada may strengthen the responsibility for individuals who evade mobilization. People's Deputy from the 'Fatherland' party Ivchenko reported that the parliament may consider the relevant bill as early as March. Among the punishment options being discussed are, in particular:

  • the closure of bank accounts;
  • equating sanctions to non-payment of alimony.

The discussion of new mechanisms is taking place against the backdrop of the closure of several media outlets. For example, the 'Rada' and 'Ukraine' television channels have ceased broadcasting, the latter due to lack of funding. Simultaneously, sharp comments regarding mobilization issues are being aired.

Member of the Rada Committee on National Security Roman Kostianko stated:

'Suspending the war is disadvantageous for Ukraine, meaning we must continue forward.' Roman Kostianko

However, his thesis that 'when you go to war, you need to understand that you are already dead' provoked a controversial reaction. Experts emphasize that the key issue remains social justice. As commentator Ruslan Bezyayev noted:

'If the authorities, having said a, impose strict sanctions on those who evade the draft, do not say and do not do b, and do not eliminate all these deferments for the well-off... this will simply provoke a backlash.' Ruslan Bezyayev
