Emergency Service Psychologists Used Canine Therapy: How Dog Toto Helps Rescuers

Психологи служби екстреної допомоги застосовують допомогу чотирилапих: як собака Тото підтримує рятувальників.

As part of the 'Psychological Practices Point' project, psychologists and the dog handler of the Mobile Rescue Center for Rapid Response 'Sumy' of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine held a session for rescuers featuring elements of canine therapy. The main participant of the meeting was the emotional support dog Toto - a true stress reliever and a favorite among all who know him.

Communication with Toto helped the rescuers relax, distract themselves from heavy thoughts, and fill up with positive emotions. One of the exercises was called 'Driver', the essence of which was to teach rescuers to trust, let go of control, and allow another to lead. The guys save others every day, but this time they were learning to trust their four-legged partner and allow him to 'support' and 'save' them if only for a few minutes.

Warm and Sincere Atmosphere of the Sessions

The session was held in a warm, sincere atmosphere filled with smiles, hugs, and kindness. Everyone was able to feel that there was support from four-legged friends who always understand without words. The Psychological Service of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine
