Ukraine at IMO: Russia set to lose its voting rights in maritime safety

Українська делегація в ІМО: Росія може втратити право голосу в питаннях морської безпеки.

During the 34th session of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Assembly, a meeting took place between the Ukrainian delegation and IMO representatives. Issues regarding maritime safety in the Black Sea, strengthening sanctions against the Russian 'shadow fleet,' and providing technical assistance to Ukraine were discussed at the meeting. The Ukrainian side expressed gratitude to the IMO for its support and for spreading awareness about the risks posed by Russia to civilian navigation.

It was also noted that due to shelling from the Russian army, Ukrainian maritime infrastructure objects, including port terminals and oil depots, are constantly under attack. Despite this, Ukraine successfully maintains the operation of the Maritime Corridor in the Black Sea.

Moreover, the delegation discussed threats from the Russian 'shadow fleet' and supported the establishment of a Correspondence Group to counter illegal maritime practices. Additionally, an agreement was reached on providing technical assistance and having IMO experts present in Ukraine to restore maritime infrastructure and ensure safety at sea.
