Cold Weather Claims Lives in Rivne
Two people died from hypothermia in Ukraine's Rivne region during a severe cold snap on January 18-19, 2023. Six individuals in total required hospitalization due to exposure and frostbite. Among the deceased were a woman born in 1997 and a man born in 2000, who succumbed to the dangerously low temperatures. This incident highlights the extreme risks posed by winter weather in Eastern Europe, where temperatures can plummet rapidly.
In the Berezniv territorial community, a man with second- and third-degree frostbite on his feet and a woman suffering from hypothermia complicated by pneumonia were rushed to medical facilities for urgent care. Separately, in the Ostroh community, a man born in 1945 was hospitalized with frostbitten limbs.
The most critical case involved a man from the village of Liubykovychi in the Sarny district, whose condition was so severe he was placed in the intensive care unit of Dubrovytsia Hospital. These tragic events underscore the lethal danger of prolonged exposure to freezing conditions, particularly for vulnerable populations. Local authorities have urged residents to exercise extreme caution and prioritize their health by limiting time outdoors.
