Melovin Concert in Rivne Canceled Following Threats from Far-Right Protesters

Концерт Меловіна у Рівному скасовано через погрози з боку ультраправих активістів.

Melovin's Rivne Performance Called Off

A concert by Ukrainian singer Melovin, scheduled for February 17 at the Rivne City Palace of Culture 'Tekstylnyk' to mark his decade in music, was canceled. The cancellation occurred after a group of protesters gathered at the venue's entrance, demonstrating against same-sex relationships. The protesters held signs with slogans such as 'No to Gay Marriage' and 'Heroes Are Fighting.'

This is not the first time Melovin's performances have been targeted by such protests. The artist noted that similar actions have happened before, with far-right activists attending his shows. Melovin stated that their actions undermine the nation's ongoing struggle for freedom and integrity.

Melovin's Response to the Cancellation

Attendees were informed the show was canceled due to technical issues. However, Melovin asserts the real reason was threats made against anyone planning to stay for his performance.

"I find it absolutely unacceptable that they threatened to harm anyone who remained at my concert," said Melovin.
He emphasized that such threats raise serious safety concerns.

Melovin also questioned the motives behind the protest:

"I wonder who needs all this?"
He added that news of the disruption was picked up by Russian media outlets, highlighting the incident's wider political resonance. The singer's concerts continue to be a flashpoint for social tension in Ukraine, a country striving for European integration while navigating deep societal divisions.

The incident in Rivne represents another chapter in Ukraine's ongoing national discussion regarding LGBTQ+ rights. Protests against artists associated with equality and freedom underscore existing social tensions. This event highlights the challenges of protecting cultural expression and human rights dialogue during a time of war and social conflict.
