Russians spent a record 600 million rubles on tabi shoes: what is known

In August, Russians spent almost 600 million rubles (297.6 million UAH) on buying tabi - traditional Japanese footwear with a split toe, commonly referred to as 'goat slippers'. According to the Center for the Development of Advanced Technologies (CRPT), this is the highest expenditure on footwear in the last four years. The information is provided by 'Glavkom' with reference to the Telegram channel SHOT.



Experts note that spending on tabi has been extraordinarily high, exceeding expenditures on cafes and food during the same period. They were most popular in Moscow and St. Petersburg.


Tabi are known as part of traditional Japanese attire, providing comfort and a natural position for the toes. However, recently they have gained global popularity as a fashion accessory. There are mentions of changes in the preferences of Russians towards unconventional models, with particular popularity gained by models from the 1990s. This indicates a shift in the consumer approach of the younger generation, which focuses on values rather than status.
