Corruption Uncovered by the Internal Security Division of the Unmanned Systems Forces

The Internal Security Division of the Unmanned Systems Forces (USF) has exposed an official within the unit who demanded a $2,000 bribe in exchange for hiring a service member into the USF structure. This discovery was made possible through the division's own investigative efforts, and all evidence and case materials have been handed over to the State Bureau of Investigation. USF Commander Robert Brovdi (also known as Madyar) confirmed the incident, emphasizing that the organization maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward corruption.

Anti-Corruption Measures Intensify

In his statement, Brovdi highlighted that the USF has operated as a unified system for 13 consecutive months. He also noted that the Internal Security Directorate conducts large-scale inspections on a monthly basis. The commander, who took office in June 2025, succeeded Vadym Sukharevsky in the role. Brovdi additionally warned about fake contacts being circulated under his name.

Regarding the violations uncovered, Robert Brovdi remarked:

“Our community of motivated, united, and determined individuals is not without its fair share of opportunists, pretenders, and schemers. We also encounter drug addicts, loafers, and drunks along the way — we identify them, train them, correct them, and treat them with work therapy.”

He underscored that attempts by traitors, informants, and enemy infiltrators to penetrate the ranks are ongoing. This incident marks a significant step in the USF's broader campaign against corruption and misconduct within its system. Among other issues requiring attention, Brovdi listed:

  • “Ghost soldiers” or the diversion of fighters to non-military tasks for third-party interests
  • Violence within units
  • Extortion of money or illicit financial manipulations related to payments
  • Kickback offers during drone procurement from manufacturers
  • Sale of military property, including drones and ammunition

Additional problems highlighted include:

  • Job placement or promotion offers in exchange for payment
  • Sexual harassment, bullying, and other gender-based violations

In June 2026, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy established an annual military holiday — the Day of the Unmanned Systems Forces — underscoring the strategic importance of this branch for national defense. The Madyar's Birds brigade and one of the USF centers were awarded state honors for their service.

This case underscores the urgent need to combat corruption in Ukraine, particularly within the defense sector, where abuses can severely impact national security. The importance of internal oversight and transparency in the Unmanned Systems Forces, as well as in other military structures, remains critical for ensuring effectiveness and public trust in the armed forces. The USF's response to these violations reflects the organization's commitment to tackling corruption risks and raising service standards.

In light of the ongoing efforts to combat corruption within military ranks, it is essential to recognize the achievements of dedicated units. Recently, the Ukrainian President acknowledged the contributions of drone force units, highlighting their pivotal role in enhancing national security. These commendations serve as a reminder of the importance of integrity and professionalism in the armed forces, especially as incidents of misconduct are addressed.
