On Monday, July 21, in Zhytomyr on Feshchenka-Chopivskyi Street, the asphalt collapsed. This information was spread by the publication 'Glavkom' with reference to Zhytomyr.info. The director of KP 'Zhytomyrvodokanal' Roman Ilyk explained that the cause was a breakthrough of a gravity sewage collector with a diameter of 800 mm, which had been functioning for over 50 years.

After heavy rains, the vault of the old collector became saturated, leading to its collapse and the formation of a pit. Utility workers plan to complete the repair work by July 23, replacing only the emergency section. A complete replacement of the city sewage system will require significant financial investments, which are currently lacking, according to engineers.

We are replacing 2 km of the collector on Ivan Hontyi Street - this costs about 150 million UAH. Unfortunately, we do not have such funds

Roman Ilyk also explained that most pipelines in Zhytomyr have exhausted their resources due to their age, leading to emergency situations and future problems. Other construction works continue in the city, in particular, the reconstruction of the overpass in Kyiv and traffic restrictions in certain parts of the city.
