Ukraine's Ground Forces Launch Dedicated UAV Directorate
The Ukrainian Ground Forces have introduced a specialized UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) directorate, led by Colonel Andriy Ostapenko. This new unit is responsible for recruiting personnel, advancing drone capabilities within the Ground Forces, and training subordinate units. According to Colonel Ostapenko, the so-called Drone Forces are not a separate branch of the Armed Forces but rather an internal initiative focused on developing unmanned systems within the Ground Forces structure.
Roles and Achievements of the Drone Forces
The Drone Forces undertake a variety of missions, including defensive and offensive operations, logistics support, and other auxiliary tasks. Since the beginning of the year, Ukraine’s Defense Forces have neutralized over 350,000 enemy UAVs. Each drone interception has been recorded via the DELTA combat system and verified by the Brave1 defense innovation cluster.
During the first ten weeks of Operation 'MoLoChKa,' Ukrainian troops successfully targeted 285 vessels belonging to Russia’s shadow fleet in the Azov and Black Seas. Colonel Ostapenko emphasized the critical role of integrating the Drone Forces into the Ground Forces' overall command structure, stating:
