The city council indicates that they want to support the tradition of celebrating World Vyshyvanka Day and promote Ukrainian culture.
Vyshyvanka Day will be celebrated on May 21, 2026
World Vyshyvanka Day is celebrated every year on the third Thursday of May. On this day, Ukrainians in various countries wear national clothing as a symbol of respect for their culture, history, and traditions.
In many cities in Ukraine, thematic events, concerts, photo zones, and flash mobs are organized for the holiday.
Ternopil is not organizing free travel for people in vyshyvankas for the first time. Similar initiatives have become popular in other Ukrainian cities in recent years.
For local residents, this is an opportunity not only to save on travel but also to join in the collective celebration of Ukrainian traditions and culture.
It should be noted that on May 1, Ternopil was attacked by drones, resulting in the number of injured rising to 11 people, 7 of whom were hospitalized.
