The 30th Anniversary of The Bloor West Village Ukrainian Festival in Toronto
The Bloor West Village Ukrainian Festival in Toronto recently marked its 30th anniversary, standing as the largest outdoor Ukrainian cultural event in North America. This three-day celebration highlighted the rich heritage of Ukrainian Canadians and showcased a wide array of traditional performances and community activities.
Since its inception in 1995, the festival has grown into a major cultural landmark. This milestone edition featured festive concerts, a traditional parade, an artisan market, authentic Ukrainian cuisine, and engaging activities for children. Performers on the festival stages included Ukrainian musicians, singers, and dance ensembles. The parade brought together diverse participants such as:

A poignant highlight of the parade was the "Towel of Unity – Towel of Victory" procession, which traveled through Toronto’s streets starting from the Lesya Ukrainka monument in High Park.

Attendees enjoyed traditional Ukrainian dishes and admired intricate embroidery, pottery, and wood carvings. In honor of the 30th anniversary, organizers embarked on a special project to create 2,026 decorated Easter eggs (pysanky) over a single weekend, adding a unique interactive element to the festival.
An installation of soft teddy bears was displayed to symbolize Ukrainian children who have been abducted and forcibly deported by Russia, underscoring the ongoing struggles faced by the community. Each year, the festival draws close to half a million visitors from Canada, the United States, and beyond, emphasizing its significance within the global Ukrainian diaspora.
Supporting Ukraine Through Charity Events Across North America
At the same time, Chicago hosted the Taste of Ukraine charity festival, raising over $4,000 for the Protez Foundation and continuing efforts to fund medical equipment for Ukrainian soldiers. In Washington, a benefit concert collected more than $3,000 to aid Ukrainian children, alongside a charitable evening commemorating the 10th anniversary of US Ukrainian Activists, where over $22,000 was raised to support Ukraine.
