Road Collapses in Turkey While Cars Were Still Driving on It

Аварійна ситуація в Туреччині: автомобілі потрапили в небезпеку через обвалення дороги.

Collapse in Rize

A section of roadway gave way in the Turkish city of Rize, located in the country's northeast. The incident occurred in the Merkez-İslampaşa district, on Şehitler Çeşmesi Street. Security cameras captured the moment of the collapse. As a result, the Topçu and Denizgören residential complexes, built above the road, were evacuated. Authorities have ramped up safety measures in the area.

So far, no injuries have been reported from the road collapse. Notably, this follows a separate incident in Turkey's Konya province, where a four-story residential building collapsed. Rescue teams managed to pull three out of five people alive from the rubble. Additionally, a five-story residential building collapsed in Istanbul, likely due to construction code violations. These events have raised serious concerns about the state of building infrastructure across the country.

Construction Trends

The road collapse in Rize is part of a broader pattern in Turkey, where recurring incidents of building and road failures expose deep flaws in construction quality and safety compliance. This situation underscores the urgent need to overhaul building codes and standards to prevent future disasters. Authorities must assess and reinforce existing infrastructure to protect public safety.
