Iranian Migrants Accused of Plotting Bombings in Manchester
Authorities in the United Kingdom have charged two Iranian migrants with plotting bomb attacks targeting the Jewish Museum in Manchester and the Heaton Park Synagogue. The accused are 36-year-old Salam Ahmadyan from Liverpool and 34-year-old Rahman Salehi from Salford. The case involves allegations of preparing terrorist acts aimed at the Jewish community in Manchester.
At Westminster Magistrates' Court, both men confirmed their identities, birthdates, and addresses. Prosecutors revealed that hostile intelligence activities had been detected within Manchester's Jewish community. The district judge ordered both defendants to remain in custody. Their next court appearance is scheduled for October 23 at the Old Bailey.
“The defendants are charged with preparing terrorist attacks against Manchester’s Jewish population using improvised explosive devices,” prosecutor Mark Lakett stated.
Earlier in April, two individuals were apprehended in London on suspicion of attempting to set fire to a synagogue, highlighting ongoing threats against Jewish places of worship.
Growing Security Concerns for Jewish Communities
This case highlights increasing security concerns for Jewish communities across the UK, particularly in light of recent attacks on religious sites. The Iranian background of the accused raises questions about the impact of international conflicts on domestic security. The upcoming hearing at the Old Bailey is expected to be a significant moment in addressing terrorist threats in the region.
