A 19-year-old resident of Zhytomyr was detained in Vinnytsia after attempting to blow up an apartment building where military families live. According to the investigation, the young man is a participant in a hostile intelligence and informant network tasked with recruiting residents of Ukraine to create improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and use them against military personnel and law enforcement.
The suspect sent photographs, videos, and coordinates of police stations, buildings, and military vehicles in Zhytomyr to his curator, for which he received money on a bank card. After that, he went to Vinnytsia, where he planned to plant an explosive device.
«Arriving in a neighboring regional center in the evening, the suspect, following the curator's instructions, found a hiding place with a package containing a device made up of a container with powdered substances and two telephones connected to it. He brought the package into the yard of residential buildings and left it among the plants in a flowerbed. According to preliminary data, the explosive was supposed to be activated when military personnel were nearby,» the law enforcement officers reported.
The Security Service prevented a terrorist attack in Vinnytsia - a citizen was detained, accused, and remanded in custody. Earlier, the SBU counterintelligence also discovered and detained agents of the Russian military intelligence who were preparing to blow up a vehicle of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and an administrative police building.
As a result, the police prevented a possible act of terrorism in the city, made possible by successful cooperation between security services and law enforcement agencies. The actions of the detained individuals posed serious threats to public safety and stability in the country.
