Transport fares in Vinnytsia may significantly increase in public transport. The municipal enterprise 'Vinnytsia Transport Company' announced that due to the rapid rise in fuel, electricity, spare parts, and repair costs, the current tariffs no longer cover the carrier's expenses. The company warns: without a review of the fare, by autumn the city may face serious problems in the transport operation. This is reported by the 'VTC', writes Traffic.

What the new tariffs in Vinnytsia could be

Currently, a single trip on Vinnytsia trams and trolleybuses costs 12 hryvnias, while on buses — 15 hryvnias.

The transport company has published calculations of the actual cost of transportation, according to which the fare should cost:

  • 34 UAH for trams and trolleybuses;

  • 41 UAH for buses.

These indicators are what the enterprise considers economically justified under the current working conditions.

The final decision regarding changing tariffs has to be made by the Vinnytsia City Council.

Why carriers insist on an increase

The 'VTC' notes that in the past two years, costs for ensuring the operation of public transport have significantly increased.

Fuel, electricity, components, repairs, and technical maintenance of the rolling stock have risen the most.

The company claims that they are currently operating at the edge of financial possibilities, and support from the city budget is no longer sufficient to cover the deficit.

The company emphasizes that the issue of raising tariffs is not related to profit-making but to ensuring the uninterrupted operation of the city’s transport system.

What the price increase will mean for passengers

If the proposed tariffs are approved, Vinnytsia may find itself among the cities in Ukraine with the highest public transport fares.

At the same time, carriers argue that delaying the decision is dangerous. In their opinion, without additional funding, the risks of route cuts, driver shortages, and worsening quality of transport services increase.

The enterprise also emphasizes that tariff revision will allow preserving the subsidized travel system for pensioners, veterans, and other socially vulnerable groups of the population.

We remind you that from June 10 to July 15, temporary traffic restrictions will be implemented on one of the main streets of the city.
