Arrest in Vinnytsia: Founder of a Rehabilitation Center Detained
A Vinnytsia-based rehabilitation center, operating under the guise of a Christian charity, saw its founder taken into custody on suspicion of systematically sexually assaulting female residents. Investigators report that the criminal activity spanned 15 years, with 10 official victims identified, ranging in age from 8 to 14. The probe was launched in 2021 after the mother of a 13-year-old resident discovered the abuse.
How the Rehabilitation Center Operated
Established in 2006, the center presented itself as a charitable Christian organization. In each new group of 25 to 50 children, the suspect allegedly selected victims from among the girls. Charges were filed under Articles 153 (Part 4) and 156 (Parts 1 and 2) of the Ukrainian Criminal Code, which cover sexual violence and the corruption of minors.
The court ordered the suspect held in pre-trial detention without the possibility of bail. Ruslan Kravchenko, a representative of the investigation, emphasized that
“accountability will be inevitable and as harsh as possible. Because those who hide behind a noble cause to commit crimes against children betray everything: trust, hope, and humanity itself.”
The investigation is ongoing.
This case has sparked widespread public concern, raising serious questions about the safety of children in rehabilitation facilities, which often enjoy parents' trust. The arrest of the center's founder could drive stricter oversight of similar institutions and prompt reforms in child protection systems. The investigation aims not only to punish the guilty but also to prevent future crimes by strengthening legal safeguards for children.
This alarming case in Vinnytsia is not an isolated incident, as similar issues have emerged in other regions. For instance, a recent case in the Kyiv region saw a man sentenced for his horrific treatment of his partner's young children. Such incidents underscore the urgent need for enhanced vigilance and reform in child protection systems across the country. To read more about the sentence handed down in that case, click here.
