WWII Bomb Found in Wiesbaden
A 500-kilogram aerial bomb from World War II has been unearthed in Wiesbaden, Germany. To protect public safety, authorities have scheduled an evacuation of local residents and will impose traffic restrictions around the site where the dangerous ordnance was located. Such discoveries are not uncommon in Germany, a country still littered with unexploded munitions from the war.
The bomb disposal operation is set for Wednesday at 11:00 AM. An evacuation will be enforced within a 700-meter radius of the find, which is situated on the access road leading from federal highway 455 to the Lucius D. Clay Barracks in Erbenheim. Approximately 50 residents must vacate their homes by 9:00 AM. A Johanniter ambulance station in Amöneburg will serve as a shelter for those displaced.
Traffic Disruptions
Transport will also be impacted on the Wiesbaden-Cologne railway line and the A66 motorway between Erbenheim and Nordenstadt. The highway will close starting at 10:30 AM. These measures are being taken to mitigate any hazards linked to the neutralization of the American-made bomb, which was initially discovered on Tuesday.
