Безпілотник атакує потяг Укрзалізниці у Запоріжжі.

Attack on Railway Rolling Stock in Zaporizhzhia

On June 7, 2026, a hostile unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) struck a Ukrzaliznytsia train in Zaporizhzhia, causing significant damage to a mainline electric locomotive. The incident occurred within the Zaporizhzhia railway hub. According to Ukraine's Ministry of Communities and Territories Development, a fire broke out as a result of the attack, but emergency crews quickly extinguished it.

No casualties or injuries were reported. However, the electric locomotive sustained substantial damage from both a technological and structural perspective. Russian forces, which continue to systematically target railway infrastructure across Ukraine, are responsible for this act of aggression.

Regional Situation

In light of this event, the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development stressed the need for strict adherence to safety protocols and rapid response to threat warnings. On the same day, another strike hit the Zaporizhzhia suburb of Balabyne. These incidents highlight the precarious situation in the region, where rail transport remains under constant threat.

This attack is part of a broader pattern of hostilities in Ukraine, where infrastructure—particularly transportation networks—frequently comes under enemy fire. The repeated targeting of railway assets underscores their strategic importance for both military logistics and civilian needs, as well as the urgent need to bolster security measures in this sector. Ukrainian authorities continue working to improve emergency response capabilities to protect citizens and maintain critical transport routes.

In a related incident highlighting ongoing safety concerns, an electric train caught fire in the Cherkasy region, prompting the evacuation of 40 passengers. Such events further emphasize the critical need for enhanced security measures across Ukraine's railway systems, as the threat to passenger safety remains a pressing issue amidst escalating hostilities.
