In Zaporizhzhia, tariffs for public transport may be reviewed in the coming days due to the sharp increase in fuel prices. At the same time, for some passengers, the fare is promised to remain unchanged even after the increase. This was reported by the head of the Zaporizhzhia regional military administration Ivan Fedorov.

In Zaporizhzhia, the fare will not increase for cashless payments

According to Fedorov, the executive committee of the Zaporizhzhia city council plans to consider the issue of changing tariffs in the near future.

Meanwhile, the authorities agreed that the fare for public transport when paying by card will remain at 15 hryvnias.

This refers to payment via:

  • bank card;
  • the “Sich” transport card;
  • contactless devices.

At the same time, for passengers who pay with cash, the fare is planned to be increased.

Zaporizhzhia explains the possible fare increase

Fedorov stated that decisions will be made considering the status of Zaporizhzhia as a frontline city.

The main reason for the tariff review is the rapid rise in fuel prices.

According to the authorities, since February 27, the price of gasoline A-95 has increased by 40–70%, and the price of diesel fuel has risen by 60–140%.

City officials note that this has significantly affected the expenses of municipal carriers and the operation of public transport.

Zaporizhzhia plans to increase the number of transport vehicles

In addition to reviewing tariffs, the city plans to continue expanding the municipal transport fleet.

According to Fedorov, the authorities want to increase the number of buses and trolleybuses so that residents of different districts can get around the city without unnecessary transfers.

In the past year, the municipal enterprise “Zaporizhelectrotrans” received 37 free buses from international partners. This is almost twice as many as the city had before.

The announcement also reminded that in many Ukrainian cities, public transport already costs from 20 to 35 hryvnias. Currently, public transportation remains free only in Kharkiv.

For the residents of Zaporizhzhia, this means that cashless payment will become the most advantageous way to travel, while using cash after the tariff change will be more expensive.
