Anti-drone protection in the Cosmic district of Zaporizhzhia
In the Cosmic district of Zaporizhzhia, which constantly suffers from enemy drones, municipal workers have already installed three-layer anti-drone protection over 5 kilometers of roads. This project is being implemented by the municipal enterprise KP 'Zaporizhmiсksvitlo', which initially installed a single layer of netting, and later moved to a three-layer protection. Currently, specialists are creating netting panels that are interconnected in three layers and are formed in sizes of 10.5 by 35 meters.
Thanks to this protection, on August 26, a drone was caught that, after taking a hit, changed its direction and fell into the bushes. During the work, the nets are installed on previously tensioned wires using hydraulic lifts. A total of 8 crews are involved in the work every day, operating in two shifts from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM. To date, nets have already covered roads with a total area of about 100,000 square meters.
Worker safety and protection strategy
Specialists involved in the projects have undergone training and have the necessary equipment - bulletproof vests and helmets. In addition, KP 'Zaporizhmiсksvitlo' has equipped a mobile shelter for its workers.
The chief engineer of the enterprise, Serhiy Rashchepkin, noted: 'We bring them to the site and install them on the previously tensioned wire using hydraulic lifts.'
As part of the overall protection strategy, there are plans to equip 4,000 km of anti-drone protection for roads in Ukraine by the end of 2026. The development of this project is an important step in ensuring security in border areas that often come under attack from enemy drones.
The installation of anti-drone protection in the Cosmic district of Zaporizhzhia is part of a broader strategy aimed at improving security in Ukraine, especially in regions that face threats from enemy drones. The project not only provides protection for road infrastructure but also demonstrates the efforts of local authorities to counter modern security challenges. The successful implementation of such measures could serve as an example for other regions facing similar problems.
