Trump and Putin Negotiations: What to Expect

According to Yegor Chernev, head of the permanent delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, the meeting between Trump and Putin could lead to a framework agreement to end the war. He emphasized that during the video conference, the positions of Ukraine and Europe were defined, which will serve as the basis for further negotiations.

'Territorial issues were not discussed... This is very important! It was emphasized that Russia cannot veto NATO's decision to admit other countries, particularly Ukraine. This is a key point of the negotiations. Of course, the most important outcome of the meeting in Alaska should be a ceasefire in Ukraine.'

Chernev believes that the participation of Zelensky and Trump in the video conference could influence the agenda of the subsequent meetings with Putin. He noted that Trump has serious intentions to achieve concrete results.

Expected Agreements and Future Negotiations

According to Chernev, the meeting in Alaska may define a general understanding of the agreement that will serve as the basis for a peaceful resolution of the conflict. The next trilateral meeting should focus on the conditions for sustainable peace with security guarantees for Ukraine.

At the same time, the politician ruled out a return to the Normandy format of negotiations, noting that aligning Ukraine's and Europe's positions will allow Zelensky to represent a united stance on the international stage.

During the virtual meetings of Trump, Putin, and Zelensky, possible paths for a peaceful resolution of the conflict are discussed as well as ensuring Ukraine's security on the international stage. It is important that territorial issues were not raised during the negotiations, and the importance of a ceasefire in Ukraine was emphasized.
