In Zhytomyr, they are preparing to raise tariffs for public transport again, although the previous increase occurred in March 2026. A bus ride may cost up to 24 UAH, while a ride on a tram or trolleybus may cost up to 17 UAH depending on the payment method. This is reported by Suspilne Zhytomyr.

New fares for public transport in Zhytomyr: how much they plan to charge

The draft resolution was published on the website of the Zhytomyr City Council on August 10. The document still needs to be reviewed by the city executive committee, so the proposed tariffs have not yet come into effect.

The cost of a ride will depend on the type of transport and the payment method:

  • tram or trolleybus with a transport card: 15 UAH instead of 12 UAH;

  • tram or trolleybus with a bank card: 17 UAH instead of 14 UAH;

  • bus with a transport card: 22 UAH instead of 18 UAH;

  • bus with a bank card: 24 UAH instead of 18 UAH;

  • student fare in electric transport: 8 UAH instead of 7 UAH;

  • student fare in a bus: 12 UAH instead of 10 UAH;

  • bus for seniors and people with disabilities of the third group: 12 UAH instead of 10 UAH.

The cost of a single ticket will remain unchanged at 25 UAH. It is used by passengers who do not pay with a transport or bank card.

Why the fare in Zhytomyr is being reviewed again

Deputy Mayor Oleksandr Shevchuk explained the increase due to rising fuel prices, spare parts, and their delivery. The calculations were provided by private carriers and the municipal enterprise “Zhytomyr Tram and Trolleybus Management”.

According to the city council, the actual cost of transporting one passenger, depending on the type of transport, ranges from 27 to 33 UAH. The proposed tariffs do not fully cover this cost, so the difference is planned to be compensated from the community budget.

«The transport department has prepared a draft resolution to increase the fare by an average of 3-4 hryvnias. The remainder will be paid from the community budget», — reported Shevchuk.

The previous increase occurred on March 16, 2026. At that time, changes affected municipal electric transport, buses, and private route taxis.

The new prices will only take effect after being approved by the city executive committee. The exact date of the meeting and the introduction of tariffs has not yet been announced by the city council.

As a reminder, a half marathon is returning to Zhytomyr in support of veterans.
