In the center of Zhytomyr, a large sinkhole has formed on Feshchenko-Chopivskyi street, temporarily restricting traffic and changing public transport routes. The Zhytomyr City Council reported this information.
According to official information, the collapse occurred near house No. 5, in the area of communication networks. Currently, the accident site is fenced off, and traffic is closed from the intersection of Feshchenko-Chopivskyi street and Old Boulevard to the water tower.
Trolleybus traffic in both directions in Zhytomyr was suspended on October 26
Due to damage to underground networks, trolleybus movement has been suspended in both directions.
Temporary changes in transport movement:
-
Routes No. 4A and No. 15A are currently operating along Velyka Berdi Chivska street;
-
The area around the sinkhole is completely closed for transport;
-
Drivers and pedestrians are urged to be cautious and avoid the dangerous zone.
Experts from the utilities are working at the scene, inspecting the soil and communications to determine the extent of the damage and the timeframe for eliminating the aftermath. Preliminary information suggests that the sinkhole may have formed due to soil erosion after rains or wear of underground pipes.
