Kyiv Aftermath: Attack Toll Rises

The number of casualties from the Russian strike on Kyiv on June 15 has climbed to 43, with three children among the wounded, according to Kateryna Pop, spokesperson for the Kyiv City Military Administration. She stated:

As of now, we have confirmation of an increase in injuries. The recorded figure stands at 43 individuals, including three children. — Kateryna Pop

Around 10 victims remain hospitalized, their conditions described as moderate severity.

Damage and Destruction

The attack hit the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, a UNESCO World Heritage site, igniting a fire on the roof of the Dormition Cathedral. This prompted an evacuation of sacred relics and liturgical items. Residential buildings were also struck:

  • A five-story building in the Pechersk district;
  • A nine-story building in the Solomianskyi district;
  • Partial collapse between the third and fourth floors in the Obolonskyi district.

The National Oleksandr Dovzhenko Film Studio suffered a fire that destroyed Ukraine’s largest and oldest costume collection, which included roughly 100,000 costumes and 3 million clothing items. Additional studio buildings and facilities were damaged as well.

Affected residents can apply for financial aid of 10,000 hryvnias through the 'Turbota. Nazustrich Kyianam' (Care. Towards Kyivans) program.

This assault underscores the alarming reality in Ukraine’s capital, where civilian sites and cultural treasures are again being targeted by military action. The loss of cultural heritage, such as the film studio’s costume archive, carries severe implications for Ukrainian culture and history. While the government’s financial assistance for victims reflects an effort to support the community during this difficult time, restoring the damaged infrastructure and cultural landmarks will demand substantial effort and resources.

The recent attack has not only resulted in numerous injuries but has also inflicted significant damage on cultural landmarks.
