Novorossiysk Port Attack
A drone attack on the night of April 6 targeted the infrastructure of the state-owned company Transneft in the port of Novorossiysk, Krasnodar Krai, Russian Federation, causing a major fire. The assault resulted in significant damage to the Shekharis oil loading terminal, severely disrupting port operations. This attack is part of a broader Ukrainian campaign targeting Russia's critical energy export infrastructure.
The strike damaged six out of seven oil loading berths. The fire engulfed the mooring area near berths No. 1, 1a, and 2. Berth No. 1 has a cargo capacity of up to 250,000 tons, while Berth No. 2 can handle up to 90,000 tons. According to sources, the operation was conducted by drones from the Security Service of Ukraine's (SBU) Alpha Special Operations Center, in coordination with units from the Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR), the Unmanned Systems Forces, the Special Operations Forces (SSO), and the State Border Guard Service (DPSU).
Economic and Export Impact
The attack damaged critical ground infrastructure, including a pipeline system node and an oil metering unit. This could significantly impact Russia's export capabilities, as the ports of Primorsk and Ust-Luga handle over 40% of the country's seaborne crude oil exports. Between March 23 and 29, five Ukrainian strikes were recorded on these ports, causing losses for Russian oil exporters estimated at approximately $970 million USD.
