Impressive strike on the correctional colony in Zaporizhia: 17 convicts died, 42 were injured
As a result of the attack by Russian terrorists on the Belenkovskaya Correctional Colony No. 99 in Zaporizhia, 17 convicts died, and 42 were injured. This was reported by the State Criminal Executive Service, according to 'Glavkom'.
After the attack, the seriously injured were hospitalized, while another 40 people sustained bodily injuries of varying severity. One of the staff members also sustained minor injuries.
The institution, where the convicts were serving sentences for various crimes, is to be staffed by about 50 security personnel from the State Criminal Executive Service of Ukraine. The injured are receiving the necessary assistance and are located in the medical unit and other sections of the institution. The perimeter of the institution is undamaged, so there is no escape threat.
«This incident is yet another confirmation of a gross violation of international humanitarian law by the armed forces of the Russian Federation. The shelling of civilian infrastructure, including penitentiary institutions, is considered a war crime», - says the statement.
Russian terrorists attacked the penitentiary institution in the Zaporizhia region last night, and the consequences of this attack were tragic. Also, devastating destruction occurred in private houses near the colony. Recall that yesterday marked three years since the terrorist attack on the Olenivka colony near Donetsk, where more than 50 Ukrainian servicemen died and over 100 were injured. The Russians blamed Ukraine for the shelling, but no independent experts were allowed to the scene.
The 1252nd day of full-scale war continues. Against the backdrop of Donald Trump's statement about a possible reduction in the time for agreeing on a ceasefire with Vladimir Putin, Ukraine is going through a difficult period. The most tense situation is currently in the Pokrovsky direction, where the Ukrainian military inflicted significant losses on the enemy and destroyed a lot of the enemy's equipment and machinery.
The event at the correctional colony in Zaporizhia is a result of an attack by Russian terrorists that led to serious human losses. This is emphasized in the statement of the State Criminal Executive Service, which highlights that crimes against civilian objects, including correctional institutions, are considered war crimes under international humanitarian law. The situation underscores the escalation of the conflict and the difficulties facing Ukraine amid the ongoing war and possible changes in the geopolitical context.
