Drones Strike Gazprom Plant in Orenburg: Major Fire Reported

Безпосередній удар безпілотників по заводам Групи «Газпром» в Оренбурзі призвів до масштабної пожежі.

Attack on the Orenburg Gas Processing Plant

Drones have targeted the Orenburg Gas Processing Plant, a facility operated by Gazprom. At least three hits were recorded, sparking a fire on the plant's premises. Local residents reported hearing explosions near the site. In response, Russian authorities declared a large-scale drone attack on the region.

About the Facility

Located in Russia's Orenburg Oblast, this plant is a key component of the Orenburg Gas Chemical Complex and is owned by the Gazprom group. It was built to process gas from the Orenburg oil and gas condensate field, with a design capacity of up to 45 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year.

Its main products include:

  • Purified natural gas
  • Stable gas condensate
  • Sulfur
  • Liquefied petroleum gases (propane and butane)
  • Ethane
  • Helium

Following the attack, temporary flight restrictions were imposed at airports in Orenburg, Orsk, and Yasny, underscoring the severity of the incident. Official details on the extent of damage to the plant have not been released. Notably, this facility is also involved in the international KazRosGaz project, which processes gas from Kazakhstan's Karachaganak field. As of 2025, the plant's exports of liquefied petroleum gases have already been affected by European Union sanctions, potentially compounding future challenges.

This strike on the Orenburg Gas Processing Plant highlights rising tensions in the region and the growing threat to energy security. As a critical piece of Russia's gas infrastructure, the plant plays a vital role in both domestic and international energy supplies. With the possibility of further attacks and ongoing sanctions, the situation could have serious implications for energy deliveries and the broader Russian economy.

The recent drone attack on the Gazprom facility in Orenburg is reminiscent of another incident where a drone strike caused significant damage at a Moscow oil refinery. This ongoing trend of targeted assaults on critical energy infrastructure raises concerns about the potential for escalating conflicts and their impact on energy security.
