Deadly Attack in Nova Vodolaha
A Russian 'Shahed' drone struck a central park in Nova Vodolaha, Kharkiv region, resulting in the deaths of six people, among them children. Fourteen others were wounded, including six minors. The attack targeted an area near a café where families with young children were gathered. Initial police reports had confirmed three fatalities, including two women and an infant.
President Zelensky’s Response
In a Facebook statement, President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack, emphasizing the human toll:
“The Shahed drone hit people directly in a park beside an ordinary café. This is sheer brutality. Six lives were lost, including children. A little girl named Angelina, just over a year old, was killed in her stroller. She was born in August 2025. Her mother, Inna, later died in the hospital. Another victim was an 11-year-old girl.”
President Zelensky stressed the urgent need to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense systems, adding:
“Ukraine requires effective air defense. We cannot prioritize money talks with Russia while this senseless war continues. We urge the international community not to lift sanctions on Russia until the killings stop.”
He called on global leaders to take decisive action to halt the violence.
In related developments, on Friday evening, the United States temporarily froze sanctions under the Lindsey Graham law to assess their economic impact. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced a 60-day review period. This move has sparked debate amid ongoing Russian aggression.
This tragic event highlights the severe humanitarian consequences of the war in Ukraine and underscores the critical need for international support to protect civilians. President Zelensky’s calls for reinforced air defense reflect the pressing demand to shield non-combatants from similar attacks. Meanwhile, the U.S. sanctions freeze may influence global policy and economic dynamics, with outcomes that could shape the future course of the conflict in the region.
The recent attack in Nova Vodolaha is part of a troubling pattern of escalating violence, as evidenced by the recent incident where Russia launched a significant missile and drone offensive against Kyiv, leaving hundreds of thousands without power. This ongoing aggression raises urgent questions about the safety of civilians and the need for enhanced protective measures in Ukraine.
