Drone Attack Targets Volodarsk Station
In the early hours of October 6, Ukrainian Defense Forces launched a drone strike against the Volodarsk linear production and dispatch station, located in Moscow Oblast. The assault ignited a significant fire at the facility. Situated in the Ramensky District about 40 kilometers from central Moscow, this station is the largest oil depot and dispatch hub for major oil product pipelines in the Moscow region. It operates under the umbrella of JSC Transneft - Upper Volga.
The blaze continued through the morning of October 6, after two storage tanks caught fire. The station houses a total of 27 tanks with a combined capacity of roughly 250,000 cubic meters of oil products. It is connected to the circular main oil product pipeline surrounding Moscow. Fuel distributed via Volodarsk supplies consumers across the capital region, including key airports such as Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Sheremetyevo.
Capacity and Impact of the Strike
The facility is capable of pumping up to 3 million tons of aviation fuel, 2.8 million tons of diesel, and 1.6 million tons of gasoline annually. The redesigned station has a total projected throughput of about 8.6 million tons of oil products each year. At 3:24 AM on October 6, multiple unmanned aerial vehicles were detected flying through Oryol Oblast toward the Moscow region. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin reported that between 8:30 PM on October 5 and 5:00 AM on October 6, a total of 650 drones targeted the Moscow area. Most were intercepted at distant defensive lines, with 105 shot down near the city.
This strike is part of a broader campaign in which drones previously attacked the oil depot in Podolsk and Wildberries warehouses. The Ryazan oil refinery, a key supplier of fuel to Moscow, has also been forced to halt operations. Additionally, a plant in Yaroslavl that provides fuel to the city was targeted.

Damage to oil depots and pipelines threatens fuel supplies for Moscow and its surrounding areas, potentially causing economic disruptions and complicating logistics. These developments also illustrate an escalation in the use of drone technology in warfare, reshaping modern combat tactics for both sides.
In addition to the recent drone strike on the Volodarsk oil depot, similar attacks have sparked significant fires at other facilities in the Moscow region. These incidents highlight the ongoing challenges faced by key infrastructure, including a major refinery that has also been targeted.
