Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has summoned Ukraine's ambassador to Budapest. The summons was prompted by accusations from Hungary that Ukrainian authorities are forcibly conscripting ethnic Hungarians. Péter Szijjártó stated that specific cases of forced mobilization were a key reason for summoning the ambassador. He cited two alleged incidents:
- The mobilization of a man in the city of Berehove, located in the Zakarpattia region.
- The abduction of another man of Hungarian origin.
The minister emphasized that these actions cause deep concern in Hungary.
“Brussels intends to continue this senseless and hopeless war, which brings new deaths, new suffering, and a new manhunt every day. In Ukraine, there is an open manhunt on the streets to sustain the war,” Szijjártó declared.
He further noted that summoning the ambassador was a form of protest against the ongoing forced mobilization and what he termed 'open manhunts on the streets'. Concurrently, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán published an open letter to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, which may signal a further deterioration in relations.
