Putin’s Claim of Ukrainian Troops Being Surrounded in Stary Oskol Has Been Denied by Joint Forces Command

Офіційне спростування: Командування об’єднаних сил спростовує інформацію про оточення українських військ у Старому Осколі.

Statement from the Joint Forces Command

The Joint Forces Command has rejected Russian President Vladimir Putin’s assertion that Ukrainian forces are encircled in Stary Oskol. According to the command, Ukrainian troops are currently only working to advance toward this city, which lies in the northeastern part of Russia’s Belgorod region, roughly 100 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

On June 28, Putin claimed that Ukrainian forces were nearly surrounded in the Stary Oskol area. He also emphasized that Russia’s primary objective remains the complete capture of Donbas and Novorossiya, insisting that the situation is under control for Moscow. Additionally, the Russian president stated that Ukraine is retreating across the entire front line.

Response from the Joint Forces Command

In response to these statements, representatives of the Joint Forces Command expressed skepticism about the accuracy of the information provided by Putin.

“Unfortunately, as of now, we are only working to advance toward this city, which, as is known, is located in the northeastern part of Russia’s Belgorod region. However, we are confident that the Russian leader knows the combat capability of his troops better than we do, so we suggest considering the battles for Stary Oskol as an announcement from his side,”
the command noted.

This situation underscores the ongoing information war between Ukraine and Russia. The statements from both sides reflect not only military actions but also efforts to control the narrative, which can influence the morale of troops and civilians. Contradictions in the information highlight the uncertainty on the front lines and potential shifts in the strategies of both countries amid the conflict.

This recent denial by the Joint Forces Command comes amid a backdrop of shifting military objectives, as Putin has outlined new goals focused on the capture of Donbas and Novorossiya. Understanding these evolving aims is crucial, as they could significantly impact the ongoing conflict and the strategies employed by both nations.
