Ukraine exported over 14 million tons of grain: how the agricultural sector feeds the world

В Україні виробили рекордну кількість зерна, що забезпечує продовольство для багатьох країн.

Export of Ukrainian grain crops

The Ukrainian agricultural sector continues to ensure global food security by exporting significant volumes of grain and leguminous crops. In the beginning of the 2025/2026 marketing year, the export volumes of grains and leguminous crops exceeded 14.25 million tons.

Among the main exported crops, wheat holds the leading position. In this marketing year, 7.66 million tons of wheat were exported, which is a decrease compared to last year when exports amounted to 9.61 million tons. Corn also showed a decline in export volumes, totaling 5.12 million tons, whereas last year this figure was 9.35 million tons.

  • Barley was exported in the current marketing year at 1.22 million tons, which is also a lower figure compared to last year when exports amounted to 1.96 million tons.
  • The export of rye decreased to 0.2 thousand tons, while in the previous year this figure was 10.8 thousand tons.
  • The export of flour amounted to 32.2 thousand tons, which is also a decrease compared to last year (37 thousand tons).

Thus, the Ukrainian agricultural sector plays an important role in the global food chain, despite the decrease in export volumes of certain crops.

The decrease in export volumes of major grain crops may impact the global food market, as Ukraine is traditionally one of the largest grain exporters.

This may also indicate the challenges that the agricultural sector faces, such as climate change, economic factors, or internal conflicts. In the context of a global food crisis, it is important to monitor the situation in the Ukrainian agricultural sector, as it remains a key player in ensuring food security for many countries.
