Draft law 'On strengthening the role of the Ukrainian language in the establishment of the Ukrainian state'

The Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy has presented the draft law 'On strengthening the role of the Ukrainian language in the establishment of the Ukrainian state'. The aim of this draft law is to eliminate the consequences of Soviet Russification from Ukrainian legislation. The initiative was presented by the Chairman of the Parliament, Ruslan Stefanchuk, at the committee meeting, where it received unanimous support.

Main provisions of the draft law

Among the main provisions of the draft law is the update of the Ukrainian spelling. The finalization of work on the Ukrainian spelling is expected by March 1. In addition, the creation of a legal glossary is planned, which will be developed jointly with linguists and lawyers. This glossary aims to ensure the accuracy and unambiguity of terminology in the legal field.

Another important aspect is the prohibition of using fonts of Russian origin in official documents. This initiative underscores the commitment to establish the Ukrainian language in all areas of public life. The draft law 'On strengthening the role of the Ukrainian language in the establishment of the Ukrainian state' can be an important step in developing language policy in Ukraine.

This draft law is part of a broader strategy of Ukraine to strengthen national identity and reduce the influence of the Russian language in society. In the context of the ongoing war and the rise of patriotic sentiments in the country, initiatives to support and develop the Ukrainian language take on special significance. The implementation of the outlined provisions can be a crucial step in forming a legal and cultural environment that meets the modern needs of Ukrainian society.
