High-Level Meetings Between Ukrainian and Moldovan Delegations

During Moldovan President Maia Sandu's visit, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba joined meetings with both delegations, which also included President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko. The discussions focused on transport cooperation and the development of cross-border infrastructure between the two countries.

Key Topics Under Discussion

A central topic was the construction of a bridge crossing over the Dniester River, connecting Yampil in Ukraine with Cosăuți in Moldova. Kuleba emphasized Ukraine's interest in opening a joint vehicle checkpoint on its side of the border.

“This is a strategically important project for strengthening logistics and border infrastructure. We need to synchronize efforts with the Moldovan side, particularly regarding the construction of the access road,” Kuleba stated.

The Deputy Prime Minister also noted that ongoing strikes on transport infrastructure in the Odesa region make it essential to establish a reliable alternative route through Moldova.

In addition, the Ukrainian government has allocated over 700 million UAH for developing alternative transport routes. Work is underway to extend the Kyiv–Chișinău test railway line to the Revaca station. Plans also include organizing a shuttle service to Chișinău International Airport. “I am confident that continued coordination at the level of relevant institutions will help find solutions that benefit both countries,” Kuleba added.

These meetings reflect the commitment of Ukraine and Moldova to strengthen cooperation in key areas, especially amid the current challenges facing both nations. Improving border infrastructure and logistics routes will not only enhance transportation efficiency but also drive economic growth in the region. The opening of new checkpoints and railway connections could mark a significant step toward closer ties between the two countries.

As Ukraine and Moldova enhance their transport cooperation, Germany's partnership with Ukraine in rebuilding transport infrastructure further highlights the importance of regional collaboration. Strengthening these connections not only facilitates trade but also ensures a more resilient logistics network in the face of ongoing challenges.
