Foreign Ministers of Ukraine and Panama Convene in New York
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha and Panama’s Foreign Minister Javier Martínez Acha met in New York to address critical issues surrounding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Their dialogue focused on several key topics, including:

- maritime security challenges and the protection of freedom of navigation.
Minister Sybiha emphasized Ukraine’s commitment to ending the war and securing a durable, comprehensive peace. He warned that
“Russia’s continued assaults and its attempts to disrupt shipping in the Black Sea pose a threat to global food security far beyond our region.”The discussion also included the urgent matter of returning Ukrainian children who have been deported by Russia, as well as holding perpetrators accountable for acts of aggression.
Special Tribunal and Strengthening Bilateral Relations
A significant part of their conversation revolved around Panama’s potential involvement in the Special Tribunal aimed at prosecuting crimes of aggression. Sybiha stated,
“Russia must be held accountable for its crimes, and we welcome Panama’s consideration of joining the Special Tribunal. Accountability for aggression is a universal principle, not just a regional concern.”
Both sides agreed to foster ongoing positive bilateral engagement, with Minister Sybiha planning to invite his Panamanian counterpart to visit Ukraine.
